Ontario Defence Association – Statement on the Tragedy at CFB Wainwright
The Ontario Defence Association joins Canadians across the country in mourning the tragic loss of life at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright. The fast‑moving fire – described by Prime Minister Mark Carney as “one of the worst tragedies for the Forces on Canadian soil in peacetime” – has left families, colleagues, and communities grieving, and has shaken Canada’s defence community from coast to coast.
ODA echoes the commitment made by Premier Ford, affirming that Ontario’s readiness to support Alberta and federal partners. Our province’s defence industrial base – from advanced manufacturers to dual‑use innovators, training institutions, and supply‑chain partners – stands united with the Canadian Armed Forces and with all Canadians affected by this tragedy.
We honour the four Canadian Armed Forces members whose deaths have been confirmed, and we hold in our thoughts the dozens who were seriously injured. Their service, and the sacrifice made in the course of preparing to defend Canada, will not be forgotten.
Today, we honour those lost. We support those recovering. And we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening Canada’s defence readiness and the safety, resilience, and dignity of those who serve.
